“I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date! No time to say hello, goodbye.” The White Rabbit first says to Alice, in Alice through the Looking Glass, without even giving her a moment to introduce herself or the himself the chance to ask her if she needed anything. That’s society today. Rush, rush, rush; no time to stop. Most probably it’s the motto of the “target” brigade; people who wear tracking devices on their wrists; or their belts or even in their underwear, as one lady was seen to proudly produce from her bra. In an era of empowerment; a word that bothers me as I write it; such objectives can take over your life. Read more

Sir Lyndsay Hoyle; Gibraltar’s great friend and defender; the new Speaker of the House of Commons; back in 2014, wrote to the Spanish ambassador to London, complaining about the treatment received by some British people on their way across the border; and the three line response to him at the time was; that this was what “we” should expect as long as “we” continued to pursue outdated colonial desires to occupy a piece of Spain illegally. Power Cuts/ Control Tower
When you hear of Spanish helicopters flying freely over our air space; when you hear of alien boats landing on our shores; when you walk down Main Street on a day when cruise ships are in town and a power cut occurs, yet again due to another power cable being drilled through; all of which is hugely prejudicial to Gibraltar’s interests; when on top of all that you hear that the MOD forgot, or didn’t bother to inform any civilian authorities that they had laid down an electric cable, and that yet more flights have been diverted to Malaga because there was no one available to man the control tower; you have to wonder whether our authorities are really in control of the safety and smooth running of Gibraltar’s affairs and whether the MOD has some hidden agenda. Now that the dust is settling on the electioneering front, no doubt it will be time to look to the wider stage i.e. Brexit. The next few days will also no doubt be a time for the raising of questions and comments from members of the political parties, as to how they thought their parties presented themselves in their televised appearances etc. and whether the content of their manifestoes worked or not. Some candidates may even feel they were simply there to prop up others; if you know what I mean. Read more
