Plan to qualify table tennis coaches in Gibraltar

The end of November saw 15 local people qualify as table tennis coaches at various levels. 8 members of the Gibraltar Table Tennis Association (GTTA) and one teacher qualified as ITTF PTT Level 1 Coaches, one other teacher gained the ITTF Teachers Award, 2 members of the Gibraltar Sports Development & Training Unit and 3 students also gained the ITTF Club Coach Award.

Two of those taking part on the ITTF PTT Level 1 have received a recommendation from highly qualified ITTF Tutor Trainer Daniela Gomes to train to become internationally recognised ITTF level 2 Coaches and coach educators.

The coaching content which took place over five days at the end of November 2017 included teaching and coaching beginners, techniques beyond the basics, organising tournaments, rules, physical training and adapting coaching sessions to include people with abilities and disabilities.

GTTA coaches are now offering coaching for children and young people of all abilities, adults, seniors, veterans and are encouraging past and present players to join their ranks. The Gibraltar Sports Development Unit are planning to build Table Tennis coaching opportunities into their school holiday programmes and the GTTA are hoping that the students involved in the coaching course will work in partnership with the GTTA and PE Teachers to implement their table tennis mentoring programme into schools.

Table Tennis is a fantastic sport, fast and furious, mind stimulating for those who want to play competitively and great for cardio vascular fitness and recreational enjoyment at all ages. Coaches and coaching will be available for young and old, fit and not so fit, at all GTTA coaching sessions.
