New band and drums in Gibraltar
Their first official engagement took place place on Remembrance Sunday 11 November at the Cross of Sacrifice were the Last Post was played by three buglers at Sunset 18.55pm to commemorate 100 Years of the end of WW1.
The sight and sounds of military music and bands playing within Gibraltar has always been an integral part of our British culture. However, in recent years we have seen a decline in numbers and performances. Only a dedicated few managed to keep this alive.
For some time, a group of retired members of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment Corps of Drums had been toying with the idea of getting together to form a marching band. This quickly sparked the interest of others, too, initially to form a Corps of Drums.
It was decided to formalise the idea by creating an association. This association would be the focal point to promote and enjoy band, bugle, drum, and fife music based on the traditions of the British Army.
The association was formally constituted on the 6th March 2018 and membership is open to anyone with a keen interest in this genre of music and its pageantry.
