Tree planting ceremony

In 2015 Her Majesty the Queen launched the “Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy Initiative”. A considerable number of Commonwealth countries have responded by dedicating forestry projects or are planting new forests or other types of arboriculture and vegetal activities.

The Jewish Commonwealth Council, to which the Jewish Community of Gibraltar belongs, has embraced and adopted the initiative. Jewish tradition has a long history of caring for trees. In fact Jewish Law mandates Jews to be custodians of the environment.

The Executive of the Jewish Commonwealth Council therefore considered it appropriate that Jewish communities around The Commonwealth should contribute to the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy project in a suitable fashion.

In this respect Gibraltar’s Jewish Community will contribute six Etrog Trees (Citrus Medica) to the Education Area at The Alameda Gardens.
