EU memoranda signed

The Government has confirmed that the Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo has written to the Prime Minister, Theresa May, to tell her that the Gibraltar Government has approved the application to Gibraltar of the Protocol in the UK/EU Withdrawal Agreement. Th memoranda will be published this morning. 

The Chief Minister has also informed Mrs May that the Gibraltar Government approves that the four Memoranda of Understanding referred to in the Protocol should be signed by the Minister for the Cabinet Office and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, David Lidington.

As a result, the relevant Memoranda have been signed by Mr Lidington.

IMPLEMENTED UNDER GIBRALTAR CONSTITUTION

The Chief Minister said: "I have told the Prime Minister that in providing our approval to the Gibraltar Protocol and for the execution of these Memoranda, Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar attaches fundamental importance to the fact that I have led in all relevant negotiations for Gibraltar and to the agreement between our respective governments which underlines that the Protocol and accompanying arrangements will be implemented in full respect of the Gibraltar Constitution 2006 and the competence of Gibraltar Government Ministers and other relevant Gibraltar authorities provided for in the Constitution."
