After Panorama exclusively revealed deep GDP concerns - WIVES, HUSBANDS AND PARTNERS NOW TO HOLD DEMONSTRATION OUTSIDE THE CONVENT

A demonstration has been organised by a group of Gibraltar Defence Police Wives, Husbands and Partners for next Thursday 17 January.

Families Complain of Bullying and Corruption Demand For Independent Investigation.

The protest by family members is to be held outside the Convent to manifest their disgust and disapproval how the MOD has dealt with issues concerning family members, all serving Gibraltar Defence Police Officers.

Organisers in a press release complain of the continuous bullying and corruption at the GDP and the negative effect this is having on husbands, wives and partners’ mental health and wellbeing.

The statement adds that the situation has affected officers to the extent that several officers have ended up in hospital with medical conditions due to severe stress and anxiety. Families are also demanding that the MOD conduct an independent investigation!

IN FULL: Press Release from Gibraltar Defence Police wives, husbands and partners:

A demonstration will be held outside The Convent to protest against the way the Ministry of Defence has dealt with issues concerning employees at the Gibraltar Defence Police. The demonstration is led by partners of officers at the GDP who have had enough, witnessing the ill treatment experienced by their husbands, wives and partners from the MOD.

The demonstration has been a result of the continuous bullying and corruption occurring at the GDP and the negative effect this is having on our husbands, wives and partners’ mental health and wellbeing. The situation has affected officers to the extent that several officers have ended up in hospital with medical conditions due to severe stress and anxiety.

There have been numerous claims of serious bullying and corruption against high-ranking officers that have been ‘swept under the carpet’. The recent announcement of the return of these officers after their suspension following a farce disciplinary process now leave officers that have been whistle-blowers in a vulnerable position, fearing repercussions from these high-ranking officers who have historically abused their power to bend the rank and file to their will.

Two votes of no confidence supported by the great majority of officers in the force have been ignored and morale is at an all-time low. No one should have to work in these conditions and the situation has reached such a dire state that it is affecting family life, leaving us with no other option than to stand up to the MOD.

The demonstration will be attended by family, friends, and retired officers with the aim of telling the MOD that enough is enough, and that we will not shy away from bullies or their practices.

We demand the MOD to carry out an independent investigation into all the allegations submitted by many officers and to reconsider the reinstatement of the two ranking officers that have caused so much harm to the force, its employees and the security of Gibraltar.

Anyone that wishes to support our stance is welcome to attend and join us on Thursday 17th January at 5pm outside The Convent.
