LEAKED DOCUMENT REVEALS: EU will ‘ALWAYS side with Spain’, as Sanchez expects full support post-Brexit

SPAIN is attempting to leverage the threat of no-deal Brexit to force the European Union into supporting its claims to sovereignty over Gibraltar according to a leaked EU document.

Writing in the Express, Tom Nellist says that Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is demanding EU officials insert a specific footnote on all no-deal preparation documents that references his country’s dispute with the UK over who governs The Rock.

The provocative footnote also backs up his accusation that Gibraltar is a colony of the UK and has been perceived as yet another way Madrid is attempting to use Brexit to further its claim to the British Overseas Territory, despite ceding control more than 300 years ago.

The footnote has been revealed in a leaked document to the Daily Telegraph regarding draft EU legislation to enable visa-free travel if the UK leaves the EU without a deal.

The document includes a list of UK dependent territories with an asterisk next to Gibraltar pointing readers to a footnote which reads: “There is a dispute between the government of Spain and the government of the United Kingdom concerning sovereignty over Gibraltar.

"The territory is registered on the list of Non-Self-Governing Territories of the United Nations, subject to decolonisation.”
