What does Cervantes Director know that the rest of us do not?

What does Cervantes Director know that the rest of us do not?

May be there are some people in Madrid who are in the know about the long drawn out Brexit issue that could have a positive conclusion. Which might be a logical reasoning behind the latest calls by the national director of the institute at the start of 2019 for the re-opening in Gibraltar of the controversial ‘Cervantes Institute’!

I am skeptical on this one. Maybe because it’s the Cervantes. Nothing official has been announced, even mentioned from any official body in Gibraltar, London or Madrid or from any of our usual reliable news sources.

As things stand you would not expect anything to be made public regarding a Cervantes return to Gibraltar. Particularly, at this stage and with Brexit in total disarray and with controversy that has always surrounded the Cervantes Institute on local soil. Although if the institute was dumped on us again. I believe generally, it would not be a popular decision or a sure win vote catcher in an election year!

Stranger Things Have Happened and Are Happening

On the election comment, stranger things have happened in the past. Gibraltar has changed in many strange ways and not all for the good. We have seen many times when election thoughts kicks-in, political odd things begin to happen or are created or suddenly come into bloom like an off-season flower, all during an election season.

With Brexit still occupying many people’s minds, anything is possible. We have already witnessed this from the UK political gathering of clowns in the Commons, especially during the current Brexit row, how political minds become skewed and that’s in the UK, but also seen from Spanish political variety!

Closer to home, already this week there has also been some questionable and odd decisions taken with at least one official (what is happening here?) press release issued.

So, the news from Madrid that the Cervantes Institute is returning to Gibraltar according to the Spanish general director of the Cervantes Institute Luis Garcia Montero. Who incidentally, operates under and is answerable to Spain’s Foreign Minister Josep Borrell, the latter in particular would know a thing or two about Brexit, Spain and Gibraltar?
