Educational Art Treasure Hunt
The Art Treasure Hunt encompassed a variety of locations around the town. This included the Fine Arts Gallery, which can be dated back to around 1954 with the formation of The Calpe Artists Society who organised exhibitions every year, and the GEMA, which is housed within the historical Montagu Bastion and serves the dual purpose of showcasing local art talent and existing as a site of heritage value.
The Year 3 students were paired into groups, equipped with their own clipboards and sent off to find answers to the questions on their Art Treasure Hunt worksheets. After exploring the artwork in lower galleries of the Mario Finlayson National Art Gallery, the students enjoyed a well-deserved break-time in the sunny piazza.
The students also searched for a location in Irish Town prior to arriving at their next destination, Casemates and the Fine Arts Gallery. In Casemates, students searched for a further landmark which is fundamental to the history of Gibraltar. After exploring the Fine Arts Gallery, admiring all of the artwork on show, and hearing about the history of the building, the Year 3 students visited the GEMA to finish off their Art Treasure Hunt worksheets.
For those interested in Art Treasure Hunts, the Gibraltar Cultural Services have organised their Launch Art Treasure Hunt on Tuesday 19th February. Schools, youth groups and individuals are invited to participate in a fun and interactive art treasure hunt through the different Art Galleries via Casemates and Irish Town. Sessions can also be booked for after the Jamboree. For more information call GCS Cultural Development Unit on telephone 20079750 or email info@culture.gi
