European Elections

What Are We Voting For...Anyone Knows?

As we start a full week of work after a fortnight of public holidays and interruptions to our normal working routine, welcomed as they were. We now face another huge, but less welcomed period of uncertain distractions, where politics will again take control of daily lives!

If we haven’t had enough with Brexit and ongoing uncertainties, last week’s Spanish elections had many on the Rock jubilantly excited when the PSOE came first at the election polls which locally, some thought was some kind of a bonus for Gibraltar?

However, the local focus now seems to be turning to our own elections, which is already starting to motivate, excite and warm up local political party machinery.

And if that wasn’t enough, to keep ahead of the political steam, we might also have to contend with the possibility of holding European elections.

If Brexit has not occurred by May 22, the United Kingdom and Gibraltar will participate in the EU election on the Thursday 23 May... which is now just over two weeks away!

The question I pose is simple “Does Gibraltar Really Have any Fundamental Reason to Vote in the EU Elections” because I’m not so sure we really do, particularly with everything else happening at the moment and the reasoning also gathering momentum that the EU elections this time round...are a waste of time!
