'Vox' promises tough campaign in European Parliament calling for return of Rock to Spain

The Spanish right-wing political party, Vox, which is standing in the European election, says that if elected it will launch a tough campaign in the European Parliament calling for the return of the Rock to Spain. This is stated in their election programme, say sources in Madrid.

Not only do they intend to 'intensify and apply with determination, concrete and serious diplomatic action' for the return of the Rock to Spain, but it will also demand the dismantling of what they term ' the web of piracy, drug trafficking, contraband and money laundering from the colony'.

That being the message from this Spanish party, it is presumed that the UK govenment will take due note and prepare for an adequate response to counter what was said in the House of Commons last week to be Spain's "illegitimate sovereignty claims" to Gibraltar.

The party 'Vox' said during a recent visit to La Linea that Gibraltar was responsible for the poverty in the Campo area and that the answer to the problem was to close the frontier.

While 'Vox' is unlikely to form part of a future Spanish government, it remains to be seen what pressures it can exert on the Madrid government if they gain seats in the European Parliament, as seems likely.
