The Housing Department, as part of its modernisation exercise with a view to delivering to the public in a more efficient manner, reminds tenants of the various methods it now has available as easier alternatives to pay rent than attending in person.

The department has introduced different options to effect payment as more convenient alternatives to paying cash and encourage the general public to continue to take these up. Those offered are:

• Standing Orders

• Online payments through the egov portal

• Deductions from Occupational pensions

Standing order forms are available from the Housing Department by email at rent@gibraltar.gov.gi and online at www.egov.gi.

Furthermore, as part of its outreach programme, Housing Department officials will be attending housing estates to assist tenants complete the necessary forms, the dates for these will be communicated via the tenant’s associations.

Minister for Housing, Samantha Sacramento said, “We want to assist tenants, particularly our more elderly tenants, in providing more convenient ways for them to pay their house rent. We have had very encouraging feedback as tenants realise that they much prefer alternative methods of payment as it is simpler and more secure.

“Needless to say, the take up of automated rent payment will also prevent incurring arrears of rent as we found that some people inadvertently did so. It is important therefore that they are safeguarded from this eventuality and officials at the Housing Department are always available to help and support them.”
