WESTMINSTER WORKSHOP ON GENDER SENSITIVE SCRUTINY

Parliamentarians from 25 legislatures around the Commonwealth have been discussing gender sensitive scrutiny of legislation and budgets.

Minister Samantha Sacramento and Opposition member Edwin Reyes have been attending this three-day programme hosted by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK (CPA UK) in the UK Parliament to meet other parliamentarians who wish to develop their skills in gender sensitive scrutiny.

The programme also enabled participants to engage with ideas to develop gender sensitive legislation and budgets, and to develop gender sensitive parliaments that promote inclusion and champion diversity.

The programme featured a wide range of experts in this field including Nicky Morgan, UK Treasury Committee Chair, Maria Miller, Chair of the House of Commons Women and Equalities Committee, Naz Shah, UK Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities, Dr Roberta Blackman-Woods, Chair of the CPA BIMR CWP, Jakob Kopperud, World Bank Special Representative to the UK and Ireland, Fatoumatta Njai, Member of The Gambia Finance and Public Accounts Committee, and Sarah Fountain Smith, Deputy High Commissioner for Canada to the UK.
