Civil Aviation Act being amended to show which part of the airfield is civil and which is military

A Bill for an Act to amend the Civil Aviation Act has been published. It shows which part of the airfield is civil and which is military.

It also includes property recently transferred from the MOD to HMGoG.The old Act is also amended to update the description of the civil air terminal, which is outdated and describes the old air terminal, by making reference to the aforementioned plan.

A plan of the Gibraltar Airport specifying which parts of the Gibraltar Airport comprise the Civil Airport and which parts of the Gibraltar Airport comprise RAF Gibraltar is also set out.

The civil air terminal is that area at the Gibraltar Airport delineated as the Terminal Area in the plan.

With the Spanish Government always over-sensitive to the isthmus area, which they are forever claiming as separate to the rest of Gibraltar, any changes in what is otherwise known as North Front raises eyebrows in Madrid.

But military residences are also being transferred from elsewhere in Gibraltar to what is known as Four Corners, with new blocks of flats already built next to the frontier fence, visible to the eye.

Only yesterday the Chief Minister symbolically took possession of CBF's keys to MOD housing at Europa and Hospital Hill, as in future all MOD married personnel will live in Four Corners. This took place in the public eye with much publicity given to the event.

As everyone knows, a Spanish surpermarket is also sited in the Four Corners area.

Meanwhile, at the recent UN meeting, the Spanish again raised the question of sovereignty, which of course both the UK and Gibraltar firmly reject.
