Dear Sir,

Thank you Gibraltar and thank you all Gibraltarians who made the NatWest International Island Games a week of sport, competition and friendship we will never forget. You opened your home and your hearts and made us all feel special and as a part of you. You are a small nation with a gigantic heart.

In your actions you have inspired us all to try harder in order to achieve more. We are stronger today than we were before we arrived in your beautiful country.

The NatWest International Island Games started in the Isle of Man in 1985. This was the eighteenth time we gathered and celebrated a week that was filled with magic, joy, love and sport. Gibraltar has been an important member of our family since 1987 and has now hosted the games for the second time following the Sunshine games in 1995. The Games is all about passion and joy and a firm belief in great times to come.

We have grown during our week of competition and we have created memories that will last forever. We are leaving a legacy in Gibraltar that will encourage and inspire sport and people for generations to come. Gibraltar became the beacon of light that will lead all of us forward.

Gibraltar has thanks to strong leaders, sports organisers and enthusiastic volunteers made a difference. Thanks to Minister Steven Linares, Games Chair Linda Alvarez, Vice-Chair Reagan Lima, Director Kim Chang, the sports officials and last but certainly not least the fantastic Games Makers. You made a difference for Gibraltar and for our member islands.

Jorgen Pettersson,

Chairman, International Island Games Association.
