Gloom descends on Main Street

Gloom has been descending on Main Street, with traders generally reporting a slow down in business.

A PANORAMA survey indicates that competition has been on the increase, including from online shopping. And tourists are spending less.

This is borne out by the Gibraltar Federation of Small Businesses who say they have received many complaints from their retail members about worsening trading conditions.

And an analysis conducted by the Chamber of Commerce shows that for the last decade the number of cruise calls to Cadiz and Malaga have been highter than to Gibraltar.

“I have been in Main Street for 33 years and I have never seen it as bad as it is today,” a trader told PANORAMA.

Businesses all along Main Street have been saying that business this year has so far been really slow, why is that?
