Over 24,000 people registered to vote in tomorrow’s general election

Over 24,000 people are registered to vote at tomorrow's general election - though not everyone will do so!

But the number of registered voters has been on the increase since 1980 when 16,200 were registered to vote.

At the last general election in 2015, the number of voters was 23,328 but only 16,475 did so - that's almost 71%.

The number who vote fluctuates from one election to the next. It was 65.65% in 1980, the lowest since, and the highest was in 1996 when 87.70% did so.

We shall see how many turn up to vote at tomorrow's election. The more who do so, the longer the count will take, especially as there are three political groups contesting the election.

At present it is expected that the result will be announced at around 8am.
