The UK general election result is a major success for Boris Johnson and the Conservatives, with Britain and Gibraltar now on the Brexit road.

Fears mounting before the election that Labour was making headway and a close result was predicted by the pundits, ended with the Conservatives instead securing an absolute majority, the kind of results not seen since the 1930s.

Jeremy Corbyn says he will not lead Labour at any future election, such was their failure at the election - and no doubt he will resign as leader sooner rather than later, which is what the LibDem leader has already done.

The political earthquake that erupted last night puts Johnson in a very strong position in Britain, the EU and elsewhere, as Brexit takes shape.
