We joined the EU with Britain, and we leave it with Britain, Garcia tells Parliament

Dr Joseph Garcia MP Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for work related to our departure from the European Union spoke for nearly an hour and a half in Parliament yesterday for the second reading of the European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill.

He said: At midnight on Friday of next week, Gibraltar will leave the European Union together with the United Kingdom.

The Withdrawal Agreement, the EEA EFTA Separation Agreement and the Swiss Citizens’ Rights Agreement will be provisionally applied as from that moment.

The United Kingdom needs to ensure that it is compliant with the obligations contained in those agreements at the moment of ratification.

Therefore they will only ratify or provisionally apply them once they are satisfied that all the implementing legislation has been put in place in the different territories to which the agreements extend. Those territories include Gibraltar.

The Government, through the Attorney General, is expected to provide a formal written assurance to the United Kingdom that this legislation is in place in Gibraltar.
