The forthcoming battle

Dear Sir,

It is gratifying to see the degree of support from opposition leader The Hon Keith Azzopardi to the Chief Minister’s management of the Coronavirus pandemic crisis in OUR Gibraltar.

It is equally gratifying the cordial manner in which the Opposition have brought, the issue of the Spanish Foreign Minister Ms Arancha Gonzalez Laya on the subject of “the bilateral negotiation between the UK and Spain of a new status for Gibraltar”, to the attention of the CM.

While I applaud this and fully support the CM Hon Fabian Picardo and HMGOG’s response that only the democratically elected Minister of the Government of Gibraltar can negotiate on behalf of Gibraltar, it is worth reminding any doubters that at the end of the day any sensitive issue such as “our Sovereignty, Jurisdiction and Control” would only be by THE FREELY AND DEMOCRATICALLY EXPRESSED WISHES OF THE PEOPLE (of Gibraltar naturally), as per the preamble to our 2006 Constitution.

So together we have, and trust will continue, JOINTLY, to Beat Covid19 by staying indoors and for the younger under 70’s to continue to act

responsibly. For the forthcoming battle we will need to display the same UNITY and express it in the same way Gibraltar has done so many times in defence of our Right to Self-determination, “outdoors” with our flags and our FREELY and Democratically expressed wishes via the ballot box.

The Preamble to our Constitution 2006: <Whereas Gibraltar is part of Her Majesty’s dominions and Her Majesty’s Government have given assurances to the people of Gibraltar that Gibraltar will remain part of Her Majesty’s dominions unless and until an Act of Parliament otherwise provides, and furthermore that Her Majesty’s Government will never enter into arrangements under which the people of Gibraltar would pass under the sovereignty of another state against their freely and democratically expressed wishes.>

Stand Firm Gibraltarians,

Joe Brugada
