SHAKE UP IN LOCAL FOOTBALL

LEAKED EMAIL: GFA to ‘sack’ Curry from Technical Director role in Major Youth Development ‘Overhaul’

by MARK VIALES
The Gibraltar Football Association will shortly announce a complete ‘overhaul’ of its youth structure following an exodus of schoolchildren to Spain searching elite level coaching at reduced prices.

A leaked email from the GFA to local clubs reveals plans to shake up the coaching development team with Northern Irish Technical Director Desi Curry stepping down. He will make way for a local Football Development Manager who will direct a revised system and be assisted by an experienced existing Gibraltar national player.
“The Gibraltar FA Board, in consultation with our Technical Director, have been reviewing the way forward for the whole of Youth Development, its structure and direction,” the GFA Executive said in the leaked email. “Desi Curry (TD) will hand over the developmental and operational aspects of the above in order to concentrate on advising the Board, and the rest of the Football Development Team, in new strategic areas of our Football Development Plan which also need his full attention.”
