Why are Gibraltarians installing metal front doors?

Gibraltar used to be a place where front doors were left unlocked, windows were open and the fear of someone breaking into your home was practically non existent. 


Why are Gibraltarians now installing metal front doors? When you are at home you want to feel safe. People who are in their elder years or those who live alone might fear an intruder more that those who live in busy households filled with family.
