It is that time of the year when unsuspecting citizens of good character and a clean criminal record, receive a certified letter from the Supreme Court containing an order summoning them (or else), for the annual time-wasting and disruptive socio-judicial ritual that is the jury service. 

Laymen and women with no knowledge or experience of legal matters are forcibly extricated from their places of work, made to hang around in the Court patio in nail-biting suspense, waiting for some superior power to emit a dictum that will have a direct effect on their immediate future.
