Deputy Chief Minister calls for Gibraltar to remain calm
The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia yesterday morning chaired a meeting of the Government’s Brexit Strategic Group and gave the go-ahead for a live Brexit TTX exercise to take place on 2 October. This meeting comes straight after the United Kingdom Parliament approved a Motion to allow further debate on legislation designed to prevent a no deal Brexit on 31 October. Read more

The GSD is wrong to attack the music festival. It is an event primarily for young people and it helps to raise the profile of Gibraltar.
This year in particular it is important to show that it is business as usual for our community and that Gibraltar will not be cowed by Brexit. Read more

The GSD says it is disturbed by the concerns that teachers have expressed publicly. It calls upon the GSLP-Liberal Government to take all steps necessary to allay the fears of parents and pupils before return to school. In the meantime and till the Government is satisfied on all safety issues, the GSD supports the call by Gibraltar NASUWT to delay the opening of the new co-educational comprehensive schools. Our magnificent new schools are being readied for the intake of children next week, says Government. Teachers are preparing classrooms. All building work is finished. Furniture and fixtures and fittings are being put up and cleaning is ongoing. Read more

Earlier this year the Government announced the creation of four posts of full-time Counsellor for Gibraltar’s schools. A long process of preparation was spearheaded by the Education Department’s Education Advisor (Welfare) Jackie Linares and Healthcare Professional Wayne Barton. Both have been working extensively with schools and other agencies both locally and abroad to enhance and develop social, emotional and mental health wellbeing in education. The Counsellors have now been appointed and start work with our young people this term. Read more

PART FOUR
FERRY NEGOTIATIONS: FIVE DIFFERENT FERRY OPERATORS
There are on-going negotiations with five different ferry operators who are interested in providing a regular daily service to Gibraltar.
In general terms, they would import foodstuffs and other material and export our waste.
One ferry has already carried out a trial run. The result of that was that certain modifications were required to the quay at the North Mole. These have been approved by the Government and they will be in place before 31 October. Read more
