As part of this month’s Development and Planning Commission, the proposed Caleta Hotel development was granted outline planning permission, in principle.
The scheme was in reference to the redevelopment of the Caleta Hotel, to provide a 5-star international brand hotel and residential development within two buildings to the North and South of the hotel. Read more

Update to Treaty negotiations to be given next week, Picardo tells Parliament
The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo confirmed to Gibraltar Parliament yesterday afternoon that he would be updating the house on where negotiations are with the UK/EU Treaty on Tuesday, June 28th. Read more

There were 204 cases of Covid-19 in Gibraltar reported to the World Health Organisation (WHO) last week. This comes at a time when there are more cases in hospital or elderly care settings and the data has now sparked concerns that we may not know exactly how many infections there may be out there. At a Passing Out Parade held yesterday in Central Hall, 17 RGP recruits were presented with certificates to mark the successful completion of their 21 week training course.
The parade was inspected by His Excellency the Governor, Sir David Steel, with Chief Minister Fabian Picardo in attendance. Read more

The Gibraltar Parliament paid tribute yesterday afternoon to both Lady Marcelle Hassan and Claire Borrell, both of whom had sadly passed away since it last met.
The Chief Minister led the tributes with the Leader of the Opposition, the Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Justice. Mr Picardo explained that Marlene Hassan Nahon, who is in mourning, would, be away from the session. Read more

During the meeting of the United Nations Committee of 24 last week, Spain compared Gibraltar to the Chagos Islands by highlighting that both had military facilities. This is the ultimate political hypocrisy, coming from a country that has long coveted the Gibraltar base for itself. Read more

The British Prime Minister has failed to keep the jackals at bay after the COVID-19 ‘Partygate Scandal’, which sparked a controversial confidence vote he narrowly survived. Read more

One of the stars of Malta’s Special Olympics was congratulated for his sporting success at New Mole House yesterday.
Marvin Zammit, who works in the RGP’s Roads Policing Unit, won Silver and Bronze medals in the Bowling events during the competition last month. Read more

Last Friday we were treated to an end of term concert by the students of Gampa at the John Mackintosh Hall. In the old days, we all took part in an end of term concert, but this was reserved simply for the students and teachers. One might have been forgiven for thinking that the West End had come to the Mackintosh Hall that evening. Read more
