The Ministry of Equality has delivered a presentation to the Gibraltar Youth Services management team and youth club members of all 4 Youth Clubs in the Youth Services Headquarters at Line Wall Road. The presentation titled “Who We Are” introduced the Ministry of Equality team and explained the varied work undertaken by the Ministry. Read more

We ought to change our UN tactics, adopting a new tune - but it would be wrong to blame the present CM because it is something that goes back a long time - and I am sure Mr Picardo may agree with me when he reads my proposal.
The purpose of the exercise is to remove Gibraltar from the list of colonies, but for as long as the UN keeps saying that we are a colony, it is the Spanish contention that wins the day for them - even if we do not like it. Read more

The Department of the Environment, Heritage and Climate Change (DEHCC) says it would like to inform all anglers that the open season for Bluefin tuna in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters (BGTW) commenced on Sunday 16th June and ends on the 14th October 2019 or until the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) is reached. Anglers are reminded that a Class K licence is required to fish for Bluefin tuna and there will be a total allowable catch of 15.5 tonnes after which the season will close. Read more

This month is the momentous 240th anniversary of the start of the Great Siege on 21st June 1779. It was Gibraltar’s 14th siege and turned out to be the longest ever siege in British history. Two months earlier, France had persuaded Spain to sign a treaty, in which they agreed to help the American rebels against Britain in the American Revolution. In addition, France promised to help Spain capture Gibraltar and Minorca. The American Revolution therefore crossed the Atlantic. Read more

Panorama Warned of Dangerous Sovereignty Situation Had Been Created
This newspaper reported last week, describing a very disturbing sovereignty related situation that had developed. Where the most senior enforcement agency the Royal Gibraltar Police had adopted a ‘dangerously selective operational enforcement policy’ generally it seems for now, in the area of policing illegal fishing in BGTW. Sunday marked the ninetieth anniversary of an important change in Gibraltar, a decision made and implemented all in less than twenty-four hours. This was the coming into force of the Rule of the Road Ordinance of 1929, passed only the day before by the Governor, Sir Alexander Godley, declaring that traffic would change to driving on the right at five o’clock that morning. Well over 250 persons attended the Vigil at the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe which was organised by the Catholic Diocese of Gibraltar for a ‘Greater Love for the Splendour of Human Life from Conception.’ There was a screen placed outside the Shrine for those who did not fit inside so that they were able to follow the proceedings.
