A major storm has blown over a statement by Together Gibraltar which said that the Government had issued 'public sector gagging order months before a general election.' It is so that such a policy document was issued internally but it appears that the civil service may have put their foot in it. Read more

I am deeply disappointed with the decision to remove the Chairman of the LIBE Committee as Rapporteur for the regulation on Visa Exemptions, specifically for UK nationals in the event of a no-deal Brexit.
I disassociate myself with this process and consider it scandalous that such a decision has been taken purely on the basis of the nationality and therefore the assumed bias of the rapporteur. Read more

There isn't much talk these days about self-determination, is this a good or a bad sign?
I do not believe that the issue of self determination is any less important today than it has ever been. The right of a people to freely and democratically chose their own destiny is a fundamental human right protected by the UN Charter and, if anything, we presently live in a society where the exercise of the right to self-determination (in a non-political sense) is more relevant than ever. Studies confirm the need for a greater emphasis on social change to translate social policies into effective and sustainable actions that make a real impact on the lives of people in society.
Experts say that social beliefs hinder the willingness and capacity of marginalised people and families to demand and access services and the creation of a more wide-ranging social environment. Some social attitudes contribute in limiting information and access to services for families, this often creates barriers to inclusion of people who may need help promoting the over-use of institutional care that may limit access to appropriate services.
