The Government has published regulations to amend the definition and effect of exit day in the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2019, in order to make the necessary amendments following on from the extension sought by the UK. The Chief Minister has now signed the regulations into law. Read more

Referring to the news that four days ago, HM Government of Gibraltar banned the release of helium-filled balloons in Gibraltar, the Chief Minister and Minister John Cortes have jointly received praise from the Animal Interfaith Alliance, an international alliance of faith groups founded in Britain concerned about the welfare of animals. A British Labour MEP of 20 years has told of an orchestrated attempt to hound him out of a key role in the European parliament on the basis of his nationality.
Claude Moraes claims to have had his position systematically attacked, with the encouragement of Spain, after blocking EU “no deal” legislation that proposed to describe Gibraltar as a colony in a footnote. Read more

For years now the GSLP Government have allowed an unrelenting pace of development to enfold our community; from the tip of Europa Point to the frontier and all points in between have been subjected to an unremitting barrage of construction with the community having to suffer the associated noise and dust pollution, often at all hours of the day and without regard to those who have to live in the vicinity, says the GSD. It is a bit rich for the Opposition to complain about the pace of development in Gibraltar when many of the construction projects currently underway were authorised by them when they were in office. Indeed, after the present administration was elected in 2011 we had to negotiate with developers to get them to reduce the scale, the height and the massing of projects which had been pre-agreed with the GSD. The GSD says it notes the comments by Unite the Union, which we published yesterday, and the relevant contributions made by Elliott Phillips on the debate on the Tobacco Bill on 25 March.
Phillips says: "It is clear beyond doubt that the Government led the negotiations and have chosen to sign Gibraltar up to a deal which they said "was good for the UK and therefore good for Gibraltar". The Government are now saying that the "deal is the wrong deal for the UK and not the best deal for Gibraltar". The Opposition have been entirely consistent, the Government's deal is a bad deal and no amount of spin is going to change that. Read more

Fourteen members of the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) have attended a Breathing Apparatus and Compartment Fire Behaviour Training refresher course at the Fire Service College in UK.
The delegation was composed of a mix of Operational Officers, Firefighters and one of the organisation’s Breathing Apparatus Instructors. Read more
