As was expected throughout yesterday’s proceedings, the second attempt by the UK Government to get the Brexit withdrawal agreement through the Commons was again heavily voted down!
The majority vote margin this time round was a slightly lower 149 votes with MPs voting by 391 to 242 to reject the deal, but still an emphatic defeat or the Prime Minister! Read more

HM Customs held a talk yesterday for local businesses on the subject of ‘Brexit – What will it mean for your business’.
The talk was by Dr Lars Karlsson, an advisor to both the EU and UK Government on Customs, borders and trade matters related to Brexit. He also advises companies around the world whose business rely on cross-border trade. Read more

Gibraltar Finance announced that Paul Astengo, Senior Executive with Gibraltar Finance attended and spoke at the 4th annual DC Blockchain Summit, the Chamber of Digital Commerce’s annual in-person gathering held in partnership with the Centre for Financial Markets and Policy at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. The Ministry for Health, Care and Justice has recruited 43 new Nursing Assistants. The newly appointed nurses will be deployed across Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA) facilities; including, St Bernard’s Hospital and Ocean Views Mental Health Facility, as well as Elderly Residential Services (ERS) facilities. Looking back, the Chief Minister has always lost no time in proclaiming that there has been no cesssion of sovereignty, jurisdiction and control. For example when Gibraltar concluded the deal on the EU Gibraltar Protocol, Mr Picardo said that it 'contains absolutely no concessions on sovereignty, jurisdiction or control.' Read more

Statement from Samantha Sacramento, Minister for Equality on International Women’s Day 2019
This year’s general theme for international Women’s Day is ‘Balance for Better’ and there can be no doubt that a more gender balanced world is the way forward.
