The European Parliament only a few days ago slapped down the Spanish Government demands to ‘Classify Gibraltar a Colony’ in a footnote included in draft legislation on British people receiving visa-free travel after March 29. I’m sure most readers are now familiar with the story still under debate and undecided between the various EU controlling arms. Read more

As preparations for Brexit get under way, Spain announced a series of unilateral contingency measures yesterday which will take effect in the event of a no deal Brexit in respect of the United Kingdom and Gibraltar. The legislation is expected to be approved by the Spanish Council of Ministers today and then by the Parliament. Read more

A Spring Visual Arts Competition willbe held in May 2019 as part of the Gibraltar Spring Festival.
The competition will once again see the categories for painting, sculpture, photography, video and installations. This is in line with HM Government’s policy of promoting contemporary arts in Gibraltar. Read more

I remember starting a chapter in my memoirs which I titled “Back in the old familiar streets on Market Day.” It came to mind because it is about the sweet recollection of the past; of our memories; and it’s a fact that nowadays, we have become very aware of the ailments of old age, and sometimes not so old, which afflict so many all over the world, including this small and kind nation of ours. Students at the Gibraltar College took part in a Creative Writing Workshop. This was led by prolific and successful writer/poet, Jackie Anderson, who has previously taken top prize in a various two writing competitions around the Rock, including the 2015 Autumn Poetry Competition and the 2016 Spring Festival short story competition, and who also started her own creative writing group “Writers together” in 2016.
