*The Representation in Westminster Movement have welcomed our 'Panoramic View by Joe Garcia' article, headed 'What Gibraltar must aspire to is representation in the House of Commons - nothing else will do!', which we published on Friday. They have sent us the following letter:
Dear Sir,

Dear Sir,
I agree with the Representation in Westminster Movement's comments about the need to look at the technical details of how to put this reform into effect, although I would use the word 'practical', because it concerns how it would work in practice. However, the Movement has produced precious little evidence in this regard and have weak arguments as a result, and have been evasive when I have questioned them about what an MP for Gibraltar in the House of Commons would actually do. Dear Sir,
It is encouraging to our Representation in Westminster Movement read in THE DAILY TELEGRAPH’S edition of the 26th of this month, an article by political reporter Daniel Capurro quoting the The Hon. Fabian Picardo’s words, “Having some representation at Westminster, perhaps even in the upper house, I think would be an important way of having the voice of the people of Gibraltar heard in London directly.”

Dear Sir,
Our Movement commends the GSLP/Liberal Alliance for including in their Manifesto,at page 39, the following : “It is therefore important to investigate fully the options available to Gibraltar for representation at the Westminster Parliament”. We value this as a positive step out of all the meetings our Committee has held with Chief Minister Fabian Picardo QC, Dr. Garcia, the Deputy Chief Minister, and Michael Llamas QC, the Attorney General for Gibraltar over the last five years. Dear Sir,
The Catalan Bay Traditional Fishing Methods Group (CBTFMG) is wrong to suggest that the Gibraltar Federation of Sea Anglers (GFSA) blames the use of longlines as the ‘sole fishing method responsible for the reduction of certain species’, that analysis is too simplistic. GFSA knows that the accelerating decline of marine life in British Gibraltar is caused by a several factors. But it cannot allow the CBTFMG to misinform the community with its unwarranted attack on the sports fishing community in Gibraltar. Read more

Dear Sir,
I recently retired from my position as Regional Officer for Unite the Union, having given 48 years of my life to the trade union movement, the last 13 as an official. It was a long and fulfilling career defending the rights of workers, to which I will always remain committed in supporting, as a proud Unite the Union retired member. During all these years I had the pleasure of dealing with a number of Chief Ministers, the last of which was the current incumbent, Mr Fabian Picardo of the GSLP Liberals. Read more

Dear Sir,
In these days when electioneering and the promises of goodies in return for votes is rife, and the hype surrounding the forthcoming elections is in everybody’s mind, all the parties concerned seem to purposely avoid the problem that one important sector of our community is suffering and has suffered in silence for decades. In fact, it is the only sector of our community which has been targeted, victimised and abused by successive Governments for over 50 years. This sector is the owners of pre-war buildings throughout Gibraltar, especially the town area including the Upper Town, the only sector of our community where the Government of the day dictate the rent that owners can charge for what is one’s own property. Dear sir,
It was with great interest that I looked at the photo of the pedestrianisation of Line Wall Rd in the Together Gibraltar manifesto however, there are a few questions I would like to ask.
1. From where will it be pedestrianised?
2. Can I assume it will be from the roundabout at the Anglican Cathedral to the roundabout at the I.C.C.?
3. Does that mean that the I.C.C. parking will no longer be available? Read more

Dear Sir,
The recent comments on GBC on longlining by a representative of the Federation of Sea Anglers cannot go unchallenged by those who have been using this method of fishing. Longlining has been a traditional fishing method in Catalan Bay since time immemorial. It has been sustainable over these many years and certain types of longlining are seasonal and geared towards different species. Read more

Dear Sir,
Throughout the Tuna Fishing Season there has been the annual debate about the size of the quota and the way it is managed, the sale of catches and the lack of enforcement by the pertinent authorities in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters (BGTW). There has been a focus on the continuing incursions by Spanish Commercial Fishing Boats, hailing from La Linea, by local commentators and political parties. Read more
