The Government wants to make better use of an area in Wellington Front - and that's a good idea. No permanent fixtures will be allowed, and of course the heritage aspect of the area must be taken into account.

Transport is a hot topic of conversation in Gibraltar; there are even a few dedicated social media groups on traffic, roads and transport. No doubt the traffic issue/problem will be a high profile topic at the forthcoming local election later on in the year.
Traffic congestion has become an alarming situation; most of our time is lost in traffic jams. Moreover, the competent authorities create even more problems by installing obstacles. With a growing number of portable traffic lights installed and scattered around causing more jams.
The issue that infuriates many, is the daily shameful sight of the growing army of amateur Spanish traffic officers, dressed up as Spanish workers holding shabbily make-shift traffic wands and wearing florescent visibility vest, some vest displaying Spanish company logo’s and name, others, even wear hi-viz vest with the coat of arms of the neighbouring municipality. This shabby looking lot, on daily basis, take on traffic control duties by all development sites, which as we all know, is mostly everywhere.
And with the Spanish Governments anti-Gibraltar frontier queues now increasing well into the late evening, there is talk of Spanish workman getting paid overtime to direct traffic when the third lane is implemented to give the RGP a relief.... But Seriously:
Is this the kind of persona we want to project and the depths Gibraltar Traffic policing has descended to: ‘the word protecting the image of our sovereignty comes to mind’. Read more

A man who got into difficulties on the east side has passed away. This was confirmed by the RGP. The 64-year old British national had been pulled out of the water yesterday morning. Read more

The Voice of Young People (VYP) have met with Ministers Linares and Cortes and Mrs Jackie Linares, Education Adviser from the Department of Education to discuss the outcome of the questionnaire launched recently by the group. The questionnaire’s main objective was to identify the main issues affecting young people today. Over 1,300 young people completed the questionnaire with the highest concern expressed being ‘Bullying’. Read more

In the same way that my parents tried to assimilate and accept the fast evolvement of the world around them which was so different from theirs; I now find myself, not doing the same thing, but certainly being sorely tested by habits and attitudes which are so far removed from those I knew and grew up with; and I am sure I am not alone in this. Last Monday saw the arrival of this month’s second inaugural visit by a cruise ship. Sea Spirit, formerly known as the Renaissance V was built in 1991 in Carrara Italy by Nuovi Cantieri Apuania. The ship was then modified and refitted in 2010 to become more suitable for polar cruises. Read more

It's great to be British, judging by the ever increasing numbers who apply for British nationality.
Earlier this month, the Governor, Edward Davis , received the oath of allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen and a pledge of loyalty from 40 new British citizens, and presented them each with certificates of nationality. Various nationalities ranged from Panama to the Philippines, and also included nationals from Bolivia and Australia. Read more
