The Gibraltar NASUWT has circulated a copy of the Chief Minister's letter to all its members and told them that they will be balloted on whether or not they wish to take industrial action.
As a result, given the wide circulation the letter now enjoys, the Chief Minister is publishing the letter so it is available to anyone who wants to fully understand the terms of the response sent to the teacher's union and which has resulted in the decision to ballot for industrial action. There are robberies and thefts galore on the Rock, with the latest being a break-in into premises where two youths forced open two gambling machines, when hundreds of pounds disappeared, and damage in excess of £2,000 reported by police. They also broke into a shop - and numeous bottles of perfume, cartons of tobacco etc, with an estimated total value of over £3,000 was stolen. Read more

Gibraltar participated in the 54th MedCruise General Assembly held in Kusadasi, Turkey from 7th to 10th May.
MedCruise is the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports. A General Assembly is held twice a year to discuss issues affecting the industry in the Mediterranean and adjoining seas. Read more

The select committee on Parliamentary reform has recommended the expansion of the Gibraltar Parliament from 17 to 25 elected members, including backbenchers. The Government would have 10 ministers, as at present, plus 5 backbenchers; the Opposition would have a total of 10 members including 3 backbenchers. Read more

The Spanish government has told the UN decolonization seminar held in Grenada in the Caribbean, that Gibraltar is a British colony in Spain. It is just as well that minister Sir Joe Bossano attended the said seminar, as we reported recently in full, and put across the Gibraltar point of view. Read more

Gibraltar hosts the International Classic Vehicle Rally on the 18th and 19th May organised by the Gibraltar Classic Vehicle Association (GCVA).
On the 18th May from 10:00 classic vehicles from enthusiasts in Gibraltar, Spain and the U.K. will assemble at Casemates. Take the opportunity to come down to get a close look at these lovely machines. Read more

The Royal Gibraltar Police is aware of the recent spate of telephone calls made to local subscribers from a number purporting to be that of a government department. The department was contacted and informed and they confirmed that the calls did had not originated from them. Read more

The Ministry of Equality will host a Disability Symposium on 4 June . The symposium is aimed at local businesses in the private sector and is part of the Ministry’s “Equality Means Business” initiative. The aim of the day is to promote how inclusion for people with disabilities makes good business sense and advise what adaptations can be made in order to make businesses more inclusive. Read more
