Gibraltar on Electoral Alert While Society Experiences Rough Times

Gibraltarian Democracy Already on State of High Electoral Alert…But?

Brexit aside, if that’s possible at the moment, but with the amount of political and none political press releases issued recently, including the debates on social media and talk out in the street, cafes and clubs has already proved beyond doubt, that the Gibraltarian democracy is already in a State of High Electoral Alert.

The voice of many of the electorate is voluminous and full-throated, seemingly fully responsive to political organisation by the competing parties.

Sadly, the same cannot entirely be said of many others in our civil society, who have been passing through turbulent times at various stages of permissiveness, which over a number of years has taken its toll. Further down the end of the civil society scale ‘poverty’ has again raised its ugly head.

But no one can be in any doubt, that in recent times, our society has been, and is still going through some rough if not tough times. The drug problem has become a festering sore. Criminality, or at least those recorded, has also been on the increase. The number of broken marriages is rising at a fast rate.
