Storm brewing over dismissals of Spanish frontier workers

PANORAMA reporter

A storm appears to be brewing over the fate of Spanish frontier workers, with the association of Spanish workers ASCTEG saying that Spaniards are being dismissed.

Their spokesman Juan Jose Uceda referred yesterday to the dismissals, and also to other problems with those employed to look after disabled and others needing care.

It is said that Spaniards have been told that to secure their jobs they should obtain residence in Gibraltar.

The Brexit question has been regarded as a threat to jobs by frontier workers and meetings about it have been held with the Chief Minister in the

past.Months ago Mr Picardo was saying that measures would not be taken that would impact negatively on cross-frontier workers. In the past ASCTEG has been reassured of Gibraltar's goodwill.
