Treaty talks to continue into 2023

The Foreign Secretary James Cleverly jetted off to Madrid yesterday on a surprise visit to discuss Gibraltar, and other matters, with his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Albares.

The news was that there was no news, other than expressions of goodwill, standard pleasantries and the mutual expectation of a treaty to come.
UNCERTAINTY
In the meantime, Gibraltar and the neighbouring region continue to hold their breath in anticipation of when the plume of white smoke will finally rise. The blunt reality is that despite two years since the New Year’s Eve Agreement of 31 December 2020, which set out the framework for such a treaty, the uncertainty is set to continue into 2023.
