ORKNEY AND GIBRALTAR MULL CONSTITUTIONAL REFORM

When Gibraltar last week marked both General Sikorsky’s death and American Independence at different locations, the Scottish island of Orkney at the same time voted to reconsider its constitutional status. In so doing, there is a plan to compare the island with the Crown Dependencies, like Jersey, and the Overseas Territories, like Gibraltar. The Rock is soon set to embark on a review of its own as well.

HEADLINES
What has hit the headlines, though, is the suggestion that Orkney could turn its back on Scotland and the United Kingdom and look instead towards models based on Norway and the other Nordic countries.
