This week marks one year since the hosting of the XVIII Natwest International Island Games 2019. The Opening Ceremony was held on the 6th July which marked the start of what was to become the most memorable week in Gibraltar’s sporting history. Over 2500 athletes, officials and media from 22 of the member Islands descended on Gibraltar to take part in 7 days of intense competition. Read more

Yesterday in my report titled ‘Government Projects Provokes New Wave of Political Interest’, I highlighted how during the past six weeks or so local political engagement and discourse had been generated, not only by Panorama, but also on social media in general. It reached a point, that after many years a public demonstration was organised, specifically revolving round the political decisions taken which created the present controversial social setting. Spain has given priority to cooperation over sovereignty, as negotiations take place for a post-Brexit Gibraltar.
However, a degree of confusion has arisen as there are two sets of talks taking place, one is the withdrawal from the EU (with the four sets of Memoranda of Understanding) and the other talks on the future relationship which took place in Malaga on 9 June. Read more

It will be recalled that the Memoranda of Understanding agreed in 2018 established a number of Committees in which Gibraltar, the United Kingdom and Spain would be represented.
The subject matter for discussion was Police and Customs Cooperation, the Environment and Citizens’ Rights under the Withdrawal Agreement concluded between the United Kingdom and the European Union. Read more

Gibraltar Cultural Services, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, will be coordinating a cultural development summer programme dedicated to young people. This follows from the very successful cultural activities held at the John Mackintosh Hall for children not attending school in Years 3, 4 and 5. Read more

Two Gibraltarians have been arrested by RGP officers on suspicion of money laundering following cross-border collaboration with the Guardia Civil, said the RGP last night.
As a result a luxury yacht berthed in Gibraltar has been impounded, and following the execution of search warrants in a private dwelling, over £200,000 in cash and various electronic devices were seized by officers from the RGPs Money Laundering Investigation Unit. Read more

I am glad to see the amount of political engagement and discourse not only generated by Panorama, but also on social media in general.
