Soon, after the Chief Minister announced the new health regulations under the ‘Civil Contingencies Act’ the RGP assisted by HM Customs were called in to enforce these historical Regulations.
These rules will now be reviewed, in 28 days’ time, and were reconfirmed yesterday, 48 hours after they were introduced, this according to the official statement made from No 6. Read more

The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo spoke to the Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab yesterday afternoon.
The Foreign Secretary said that he had been asked by the Prime Minister specifically to reassure the people of Gibraltar of the continued support of the United Kingdom in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more

The British Government is standing by Gibraltar now and in the long run, procuring medical and other equipment needed right now, even through Military Aid to Civil Authority.
It follows question in the House of Lords.
Lord Chidgey asked Her Majesty's Government what steps they are taking to support the government of Gibraltar in dealing with COVID-19; and in particular, whether they are providing advice and access to medical supplies to the government of Gibraltar. Read more

Unite says it will be contacting employers where 'we have seen lay-offs after the 15th March for these to be reversed and members to be placed back in employment with the restoration of contractual rights.
Contact has already been made with a number of employers and we are pleased to report that they are following the Government scheme fully.' Read more

Although the construction industry has been closed down as a result of the coronavirus measures taken by Government, certain works related to the construction industry industry continue, as noted by some members of the public. In fact, we have been sent photographs showing uniformed workers not even keeping to the safety distance the Government has been harping on. Read more

The BEAT COVID-19 measures are aimed directly at employees that are registered by their employer as being inactive during this period of pandemic.
Businesses that would otherwise be unable to support the continued cost of paying salaries to employees that are inactive in this period will be given the closest thing to a shot in the arm that the Government can give them.
Direct financial support to be able to retain their staff and pay them their salaries at a fixed rate.
And we expect businesses to take advantage of this and to retain their staff. Read more

The Gibraltar Youth Service delivered its first digital online youth work session yesterday evening.

The suspension of the Main Street & Irish Town Cycle Lane will be postponed until the 31st May, says official statement, which adds: The Government will extend the use of the Main Street and Irish Town cycle lane from the previous closing date of 31st March 2020 until 31st May 2020.
This decision has been taken as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic with an objective to facilitate the delivery of food by companies that use bicycles to deliver to the elderly and others who reside in this part of town.
This measure follows ongoing announcements relating to COVID-19 whereby food delivery com-panies and other service providers will be able use the existing cycle lanes during the next few weeks when pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be at a low. Read more
