There are trees that are known to have roots that sometimes fuse with those of other members of its same species, creating a subterranean intersection of exchange between individual trees, to create a super organism. This is what we have been part of all along as members of the EU with the UK; part of supposedly, a civilized family of nations with a purpose, and goals which included promoting peace; breaking down barriers to trade and borders; promoting inclusion and combating discrimination; championing environmental protection etc. What went wrong? Study shows that when a tree is cut down and only the stump remains, it nevertheless continues to be a participating member of the local super organism. Read more

On the 3rd September 1939 marked the outbreak of World War II, few are aware that it also marks the first major British maritime casualty, the merchant vessel SS Athenia was torpedoed just a few hours after hostilities were declared, with the loss of 128 passengers and crew. Gibraltar is truly blessed. It has a great many influential friends abroad; or certainly well connected; both in the UK and in America. I no longer feel like we walk alone, as I felt some years back when I sometimes despaired at too little engagement. Time as always of course, will see the fruition of good intentions. The relationships fostered and bonds formed have come about through years of lobbying by our Government leaders. This is an indisputable fact! Groundwork and hard graft have gained us this welcome support which must give us much comfort and weight in the political arena. Read more

The media loves to have its fun and sometimes enjoys presenting Ministers as inept and comical. But there are those of us who believe that in general; putting aside the quixotic and the eccentric; including one such as Boris Johnson of whom so much derogatory character description has filled the columns of newspapers and political chat; it can be said that there is always a great deal of method behind the apparent, shall we say, quirkiness. Some may even venture to consider they have not come across a man with better motives, for the trouble he causes. Read more
